A couple of weeks ago, the
lovely people at Clarks Shoes have offered me a pair of their cult Desert Boots
to review. I have always wondered about them as many of my friends rock a pair
with summer dresses for a laidback, cool look and in the winter with either
skinny jeans or thick wool tights. They always look really “indie” and
comfortable, but I wasn't sure if I'd pull them off.
The boots have been around
since the 1950’s and were developed in Street, Somerset. I worked in the Clarks
Village for a week or so, and it’s such a cute little place full of shops with
HUGE discounts, which includes a Clarks Museum. Celebrities such as Liam
Gallagher, Robbie Williams and Sarah Jessica Parker kicked off the trend in
1990’s when they were spotted wearing the boots; SJP was photographed buying
two pairs (black and brown) because she couldn’t decide which one she liked
best. Today’s fans include Florence Welch and Alexa Chung who spot their
favourite pairs at festivals and premieres.
I was advised to get half a
size bigger than the size I am – don’t do that. The shoes are fine in your
regular size, and mine are now slightly bigger but I guess that’s OK if I want
to wear thick socks with them in the winter.
Another thing I found is
that the quality of shoes is excellent: they’re durable, comfortable, fashionable
and practical. But, when I first put them on they really hurt my ankles as they
are quite tough, so I had to wear them with thick socks for a little while.
I think the Desert Boots are
a staple in any fashion lovers wardrobe – they’re smarter than a pair of
trainers but are just as comfortable and can be worn during all seasons. The
boots will last you a lifetime and come in a variety of styles and colours so
everyone can pick something that suits them. I love the suede black pair as
they go with everything and will never go out of fashion.
You can pick up a pair of Clarks
Original Desert Boots here. Keep an eye out for future fashion outfit posts featuring how I wear my Desert Boots!
