To Fake or Not to Fake? Debate over real designer sunglasses vs fakes.

wearing Primark Wayfarer and Aviator style sunglasses £2 each

Last weekend I met up with my girlfriends for a couple of “quiet” (pshhh, please) drinks. One of my friends got mega excited when she told me she had something to show me and pulled out a neat Ray Ban Sunglasses case. She has been looking for a pair of sunglasses for months, and nothing would suit her until she finally tried on my aviators and decided they suited her best. Of course, they were RayBan Aviator Sunglasses, brand new and shiny…

Which then led my other friend to pull out hers, which were vintage Ray Ban Wayfarers that were her grandmothers back when she was a young lass. The sunglasses were really cool and retro looking, and I love Wayfarers – I think they suit every face shape, I honestly do! Coming in a variety of colours and prints for both guys and girls, there is essentially a pair for everyone.

Our conversation turned to does is actually matter what make your sunglasses are or if they’re fake branded or not? I have a pet peeve for fakes, I cannot abide fakes. Dupes, when something looks like a designer product but blatantly isn’t from the designer – fine. If I have to witness another fake Louis Vuitton bag parade down the high street I will cry.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with buying a pair of sunglasses for £2 from Primark, but it is morally unacceptable (to me, I understand people have different views) to purchase a pair from the back of a van which you still pay £20 and they will snap at any given moment. At least with a cheap brand you don’t expect much – unlike the false sense of security that a fake pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers will give you.

At that point, I sheepishly pulled out my £2 Primark aviators out and placed them proudly on my head – cheap, but cute, and they don’t pretend to be anything else. And honestly, from far away, who’s going to tell where they’re from?! If you do however want to snap up a pair of Ray Bans UK, check out Red Hot Sunglasses.

PS: I would LOVE a pair of real Ray Bans, I’m just poor at the moment, so if anyone wants to donate some I will give you a smooch and a shout out.
