Scrunchie Tutorial: Sleek Style

So far I have shown you guys how to wear the scrunchie in two different casual ways, but I saw this style on Pinterest and really wanted to recreate it for a night out. This look is best worn with striking lips and sleek eyeliner, and I dressed it with a mesh inset body, high waisted jeans and black heeled boots. I hope you like this look and if you do try and recreate it, send me pictures on Twitter

First, wash your hair and apply Smoothly Does It heat protection cream* onto towel dried hair. Spread it all over your hair using fingertips. I've recently started using heat protection products on my hair and it makes a huge difference to the state of your hair, obviously it breaks less and is silkier and smoother. This is one of my favourite products and I actually put it on whilst my hair is still wet. I really can't fault VO5 as a high street brand, it's my high street choice of hair care because I always get good results from styling with them.

Brush your hair, as this is a sleek look you don't want any unwanted bumps in your hair or for it to clump in places. It's also easier to brush out at the end of the night!

Brush upward, gather all the hair away from your face and make a tight ponytail. Remember to keep it sleek!

Grab your scrunchie* and secure the ponytail in place. It needs to be high up on your head, this way the scrunchie can be seen.

Using tongs, curl strands of the ponytail in 2/3" sections. Let them cool as they are and be careful not to burn yourself like I kept doing :( OUCH!

Fix the hair in place with hairspray. I'm loving this VO5 Ultimate Hold Spray*, it's weather resistant which is perfect for the summer season as the weather really doesn't know what it's doing. I've been looking for a spray like this for ages, hopefully now my hair will stay how I want it to!

Et voila! You are ready to go out an party in style! The whole point of the scrunchie trend returning is to be loud and proud, it's a statement back from the 90s and sits just right amongst the baseball tops, the sport luxe trend and pointed stilettos.
I hope you guys enjoyed these series of posts, I loves creating them and wearing them! For more scrunchie inspiration check out my Twitter and Instagram where you can find photos of me wearing my scrunchie out.

Scrunchie Tutorial: Half Up Hair

Hi guys!

Wow, I know it has been a long while – a whole week from my last post! I hope you missed me as much as I missed you! I’ve been experiencing some technical difficulties last week so I haven’t been able to provide you with “guidance” on some of my latest trend and product discoveries, but I’m back now and have acquired several things that I would love to tell you about and one of them is my second scrunchie tutorial which, if you follow me on Twitter / Facebook / Instagram, you would have seen me wear all of last week. In my last post I showed you how to wear the scrunchie in a messy bun, but if you prefer your hair down this is the perfect look for you.

I prefer to wear this style on the second day hair as I find when using products that give your hair texture it’s easier to style on day two. Just me? Ok, so I originally washed my hair with the VO5 Give Me Texture Shampoo* and Conditioner*, which I love the smell of, and the bottles last for absolute ages. Wash, condition, dry and straighten (or leave wavy if you prefer – the style works both ways!)

Before styling, I always brush my hair to ensure there are no knots as I find brushing knotted hair, which has got products in it possibly one of the most unpleasant experiences ever. I remember when my mum or grandma used to brush my long hair for school and they caught a knot it was like torture – so from now on I never let my hair get tangled if I can help it.

I then use the Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray* and spray in the middle of my hair, best done when you flip your hair back and forth (que the ridiculously annoying but catchy Willow Smith tune!) as the product catches on strands and gives it a really nice, structured yet messy effect.

Gather your hair and separate halfway up the head, I don’t really worry about the parting being inch to inch perfect, as long as it’s relatively the same then it works! Depending on what your hair is like, you might want to give it a quick brush through on the top just to get rid of some flyaway strands.

Grab your scrunchie* and secure the half pony quite high up on the head. You want the top of the scrunchie to be seen, so fluff it up!

The next step is to add a little more texture to the look so use my all time favourite Tousled Style Spray* and spritz on the ends and the middle of your hair. A little goes a long way with this product! Scrunch up the hair and tousle it about with your hands, this will give the look it’s final kick of texture.

Place any out of place strands where you want them to be and you’re done. Hairspray isn’t a necessity, as you would have secured most of the hair with the Style Spray. I love this style to wear when I’m having a lazy hair day as I think it covers up any imperfects such as frizzy hair or greasy roots (don’t lie to yourself, you know there are always days when we just can’t be bothered to topknots and dry shampoo come in hand!) and is best worn with a baggy vest top, denim shorts, Wayfarers and a funky backpack to channel the 90’s!

Scrunchie Tutorial: Your Hairs New Best Friend!

scrunchie, hair tutorial, beauty tutorial, beauty bloggers, UK beauty bloggers, VO5 hair tutorial

Hey guys! I was contacted by VO5 to do another series of hair tutorial posts like the ones we did a few months back (Tousled Tresses, Voluminous Updo and Classic Sleek Waves) and I had so much fun doing them, and eagerly jumped at the next challenge which was... a scrunchie.
Scrunchies have been in the press all summer and I remember the last one I saw was featured in Company magazine, and I have to say when I first saw that they were back - I was scared. I have always made fun of scrunchies, I thought that they were the most ridiculous style to be brought back but recently Fearne Cotton, MK and Prince H's girlfriend have all been spotted wearing the trend. And you know what? They look kinda cool!
So, I proposed three looks you can rock this summer which involve a scrunchie and this is the first casual, messy up do which is great to make when you are in a hurry and you're off to a festival, or you have second day hair and you want to freshen up a bit, or you're just chilling on a Sunday. I have been wearing this look for the last three days to a picnic, pottering around on a Saturday and it's just been great. One big BIG bonus of a scrunchie is: you know when you use a skinny hair tie and you have straight hair it can leave an annoying kink? Yeah, well this bad boy doesn't do that! Ching! Anyway, scroll down for my step by step guide on how to work the scrunchie look numero uno:

You want to start off by washing your hair with the Give Me Texture shampoo and conditioner*. This look works best on hair that is texturised, it gives it more volume and a little more style. Dry the hair and straighten it (that's my preference but if you have or prefer wavy hair it works great too!)

Brush through hair as there is nothing worse than working with knotty hair! IT HURTS.

Next, use the VO5 Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray* This spray is great for adding volume and texture to flat hair, so second day hair no longer needs to look boring and dull!

Spray it just below your roots to avoid hair going greasy, don't worry about the ends - just middle of your head really. And then work it through your hair and pretend you're in a hair commercial, like the picture below! :)

Next, use the Tousled Style Spray*. I discovered this spray several months ago and it is a lifesaver, something that I would take to a deserted island. When your hair is frizzy, or you can't be bothered, or it's just flat - this baby brings it to the next level! I use it more so in the summer because it's great for creating boho beach waves as well.

Spray the product on the ends of your hair, and scrunch as you go. You don't need a lot of this spray: remember a little goes a loooooong way!

Once you've scrunched your hair and given it some texture lovin', get your scrunchie* and pull your hair into a pony tail, but just as you're about to pull the final loop stop right at the end creating a loop of hair. Tighten and secure.

This look is messy, so pull out strands of hair and pull out some thicker hair chunks to give it volume and make it look like you haven't really worked at this style at all. You'll work out your favourite style and level of messy the more you do these kinds of buns, so don't worry if it doesn't look right straight away.

Et voila! Chuck on some retro shades and you're ready to rock the festival scrunchie look! For the travels of my scrunchie look check out my Instagram which is TheFashionFake and see where I've been wearing my look to!

Hope you guys liked this quick tutorial, it's a little different from my last one that I did so let me know if you prefer this step by step guide or the "chart" looking guides! And I'd love to know what your thoughts are on the scrunchie look: Yes or NoNo?!

The “urban safari” look has been around for years and I’m pretty sure all of us have embraced it in one way or another, whether it’s in the shape of an accessory or a printed jumpsuit. Although it’s not a trend that jumps out of Vogue or even Company this summer, I still find it’s a style that I can utilise in my day to day office environment and then an evening out if needs be.

I got these trousers from New Look about 2 years ago, in the sale for about £7. I wanted to experiment with printed harem trousers and these seemed to fit my figure quite well so I went ahead. This style and cut of trousers always looks better with heels, so for a day look I paired them with t-bar wedges that I know will be comfortable for the 11 hours that I work/travel every day.

I paired it with a simple, yet structured top from this seasons Zara collection and added a hint of colour with a Topshop necklace. If I was to wear this out, I’d grab an envelope style clutch, but as this is a day look – an oversized black bag will do just fine.

I love trends but you don’t have to follow them all the time: just because something isn't “in” this summer doesn’t mean you will look dated or unfashionable. And reuse your old pieces – some of my favourite outfits contain bargains I found 2 or 3 years ago! All you need to do is add a piece from a current collection and style it up to date.

I saw this product featured in a womens lifestyle magazine I recently read and dear lord my eyes were like WOAH when I saw it! If you have read my blog before, especially the skin posts, you will know that I am majorly unconfident with my skin due to the acne I suffered from when I was a teenager. The prospect of being bare faced, with no tan, no tinted moisturiser - just skin - is not very comfortable for me, unless I'm around close family. So when I heard of this miracle night treatment, "excited to try it" does not even cover what I though.

The idea behind this product is to reduce the appearance of pores, give your skin a glow and also increase cell turnover which will help your skin perfect itself. All this is done through the bareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex which provides our skin with renewing benefits overnight. From speaking to the sales assistant, she suggested that this actually works even better in the summer as you don't need a lot of coverage and you can wake up, do your usual business minus the foundation routine and carry on with your day. Great concept for mums who need to do a school run, Sunday morning, #heatwave2013... Or someone spending the night with their significant other who might have the same skin confidence issues. I just like it because I think the concept is great. What's even better that all my worries about this product (which were clogging up pores, being bad for the skin, leaving makeup marks on pillows...) were all proven wrong. I like this product because I think it simply works and in this case it's good enough for me. Mineral makeup is generally better for the skin, since I've switched to mineral for the summer I have noticed a huge difference in my skin and I'm getting more comfortable wearing less and less foundation. The only thing that didn't quite live up to the expectation is the coverage level, I was hoping it might provide a little more coverage however products can hardly ever be perfect, right?

What do you guys think of the concept? Is this something that you might try? I'd love to know!

REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask.

So I accumulated quite a few samples from REN and I thought it's about time to post about some of my favourite products, starting with this Invisible Pores Detox Mask. I usually have a pamper night on Sundays and Wednesdays, when I really get to scrubbing and layering on the masks. REN has been a favourite of mine for quite a while now, I was wondering about the products for ages because of how much other bloggers rave about them, so the team at REN were very kind to send me a couple of samples of some of their bestsellers.

REN isn't the cheapest brand, but I personally don't mind spending a bit if the product is as good as it promises, and I found with REN the products never disappoint. This mask is definitely a different experience as it kind of flakes off your face when it's time to remove it which makes an interesting concept!

I start with thoroughly cleansing my face, then pat it dry and apply the REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask. I prefer a thicker layer, as I find it's more effective and easier to remove. Then depending on how thick of a layer you have applied, wait until it is fully dry and simply rub your skin to remove the mask. Finish by rinsing off with warm water, toner and your favourite moisturiser.

This product makes my skin really smooth, bright and tightens pores and my makeup looks great the next day as the skin is so easy to apply to! For me it's worth the £18, and it lasts for such a long time! Overall the REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask is a winner, alongside the REN Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask (review here), and I can easily give these products 10/10.

My mama recently went on a business trip over to Holland and brought back me and my little bro some goodies, and mine was this gorgeous Dior Addict Gloss. I am a huge fan of Dior makeup, I think the brand is ridiculously amazing from their clothes, to perfume and especially makeup. I have used the Dior Addict Lipsticks before (you can read a review of them here) and they have quickly jumped to the top of my favourites list.

This colour is absolutely gorgeous, it's kind of a coral/orange which I am obsessed with at the moment so thank you for picking this mam! It has shiny particles, which make your lips look really plump and moisturised which is a look I love in the summer, and the colour will look amazing with a tan. By the way, anyone living in England, WHERE IS THE SUN?! Has someone stolen it this summer and decided we need a 12 month Autumn?! Because that is what it feels like and I'm finding that I am resorting to my UV massager more and more just to try and keep a little bit of warmth coming into my body and avoid getting SAD. Anyway, if you are living somewhere with proper seasons, or are lucky enough to be going on holiday this year, this gloss is a great buy. As I am also a sucker for nice packaging, the glosses and lipsticks have tick all the boxes in terms of colour, pigmentation, effect and packaging. As they are quite pricey, it is a luxury buy for me but I can see that this can be quite an expensive habit as I keep spotting more and more colours I want... I might start buying lottery tickets to sponsor my love for Dior Addict lip products.
