Degustabox December Review

Degustabox Review of the December monthly subscription food box
If there is one lifestyle delivery box you should be signing up to, I would recommend Degustabox.
Degustabox is a monthly food subscription box which contains 9-14 foodie items ranging from vitamin drinks to fruit snack packs, and even ready meals. This is the December box, but because it arrived a little late I am only now writing about it.
The brand have definitely set up their December box in preparation for everyones January cleanse - except dry January maybe as it contained two bottles of alchohol! Which are still in my fridge as I am one of those people participating in a January cleanse (PS a glass of red wine one at dinner didn't count!!)

The first item on the Degustabox list are these delicious mango and pineapple bars from The Fabulous Bakers - delicious, natural and packed with goodness to help you satisfy cravings without reaching for a bag of crisps or chocolate. Perfect for on the go - although I think if you're on a diet and wanting a snack you should actually go for fruit, these are the perfect snack to carry on a journey: no mess and no fuss! The bars are delicious and filling - I snack on them during outfit shoots, and on my journeys!

I was already familiar with Nothing But snacks as I collaborated with the brand in 2015, but it was great to see them in Degustabox. Nothing But are exactly what they say they are - nothing but fruit and vegetables, which are freeze dried. Freeze drying is a process which helps fruit and veg keep in all their goodness and nutrition - making this a great snack and one of your five-a-day!

Hip Pops are a great alternative to potato crisps (and I love crisps, so they were one of the snacks I reluctantly gave up in January and am minimising in general...) as these snacks have typically 50% less fat than crisps, and are full of fibre which helps keep you fuller for longer. I really enjoyed snacking on Hip Pops - and the best thing is they typically come in all the traditional crisp flavours including Prawn Cocktail, Salt & Vinegar, Cheese and Onion and BBQ!

Pasta makes for the perfect dish to share with friends on a Friday night - I love making a batch of chicken and vegetable pasta, inspired by Italian Summers, with a glass of Sicilian wine (here's the cheeky glass!) and dishing up in a huge deep bowl, with garlic bread, dipping oils, olives and antipasti for everyone to dig in. Although I love making pasta sauce from scratch, sometimes it's really useful to use a pasta sauce and just add some fresh ingredients like tomatoes, basil, and meat - failing that, just top your pasta with hot sauce and grated cheese for a mountain of melted goodness.

Betavivo is a crispy oat cereal which is high in an ingredient called beta-glucan which can lower your cholesterol and blood glucose. Eating just one daily serving provides you with the required 3g of beta-glucan from oats which is needed to reduce your blood cholesterol. Looking after your cholesterol is important, especially if you have troubles with it already. I use this as a cereal/muesli topper - tasty and good for you!

Complete Energy Bites are packed with caffeine and sugar which give you energy on the go without any mess or hassle. These go straight to Liam in our house because his job is physically demanding and he often drinks energy drinks, which I boycott. I don't like artificial energy coming from sugar and caffeine - to the point where I don't even drink coffee! And Red Bull? Haven't touched the stuff since my teenage years. 11g of Complete Energy Bites contains 5.5g of sugar - for someone on a sugar detox, this is not something we should be indulging in and find energy from other sources like fresh food.

Ok so I was super excited about this item in the Degustabox - TreeVitalise is organic birch water, and birch water has hit the papers as being the next best thing since coconut water. I am a huge fan of coconut water, and use it a lot to hydrate and also put in smoothies - and I was so curious to see what birch water tastes like! Described as velvety and soft in taste, this bottle was pure birch sap.
The verdict? I'm not impressed. The water wasn't what I expected in terms of taste - yes it was very velvety and soft to drink, but the actual taste just wasn't to my liking. It's difficult to describe the taste as it's nothing like I've had before - perhaps the closest I could get was a little sour and a little stale? But this is subjective because Liam loved the taste!

KoKo Dairy Free is coconut milk which we are all probably familiar with. Coconut milk is the perfect and delicious replacement for milk and can be used in cereals, milkshakes, smoothies and simply for drinking. This is perfect for me because sometimes drinking cow milk gives me really bad stomach cramps (especially in the mornings?!) but I haven't ever had that problem with coconut milk. It's simply YUM!

Chai latte is a favourite of mine to drink at coffee shops - my mum and I always grab a chai latte, and I have some cinnamon on top of mine :) Alas, January is a month of saving and coffee shops aren't on everyones agenda - so it's great to have a stash of delicious chai latter hidden in your cupboard! All you add is water, or a little bit of frothy milk for extra fluffiness! Grab a book, and cosy up on your sofa with a blanket and your chai latte for a relaxed evening in.

And finally we have Crabbies Alcoholic Light Ginger Beer and Red Square Toffee Vodka. I haven't drank these yet because I am actually being really good with my alcohol intake this month but I have previously tried toffee vodka and even if you don't like vodka, this stuff is made from heaven. Served straight with some ice it's delicious and yummy served as a dessert drink after dinner.
Crabbies Ginger Beer is delicious, and gets extra points for giving you a light buzz. Serve with ice, or in a cocktail - this is a great drink to have with friends around!
