Restaurant Review: The Oak in Smannell, Hampshire
I love living in Hampshire because we are so close to beautiful countryside walks, the seaside, only an hour away from London - and we have an abundance of gorgeous countryside pubs right on our doorstep. You might have seen some forest snaps over on my Instagram - I take Harvey there every opportunity I get so he can explore the wilderness. On the way to the forest stand The Oak in Smannell - a cosy countryside pub which serves good pub grub and is a brilliant stop to catch up with friends.
I often visit The Oak in Smannell to enjoy homey food and a warm atmosphere - in fact I actually wrote a review of a Winter trip from one of our get togethers with friends previously (you can read it here). I enjoy the food that is served there, the prices are good, and I like the atmosphere. Plus, it's so convenient to stop off on the way back from a dog walk!
We visited The Oak on one of our days out with Heidi - creative catch up between a Hampshire blogger and a videographer! We love food so anything that involves a catch up also involves food (carbs and cheese is a favourite!). I ordered fish and chips - a meal that often is just so nice and comforting, and I know I'll like it! Heidi has a vegetarian ravioli with ricotta and pear filling - different and yummy!
I love the fact that The Oak in Smannell uses local produce from companies around Hampshire, most of which I recognise like Coopers of Andover fresh fish and Hampshire beef; Vitacress which is also just down to road from where we live; New Forest Ice Cream; and independent farms from Little London and Smannell.
We couldn't resist dessert either - it was the kind of day where you leave the starters and save room for something sweet. Heidi had a brownie with caramel sauce and ice cream, and I opted for a fudge milkshake with salted caramel ice cream - it was huuuuge but so worth it! An amazing milkshake, and I'm not one for being a dessert person.
We washed down the meal with a warming cup of tea that came served in a cute antique set - talking of antiques, Hampshire has an abundance of vintage stores where you can pick up furniture, clothes, accessories, art and books. So if you're on the hunt for antiques to decorate your home with, visit us in Hampshire and be prepared to leave with your hands full!
