It has become a tradition of mine to visit the Winchester Christmas Market every year to get into the festive spirit - and I really needed the trip this year as I have been feeling more like the Grinch rather than a happy festive elf. I don't really know why - maybe it's because this is the first Christmas day that I won't be spending with my own family, or my animals, which is making me rather sad but it's only fair that we spend this Christmas Day with my SO's family. So in an attempt to ignite the festive spark in my spirit, I teamed up with my friend and fellow blogger Nicole to spend the day drinking mulled wine, catching up on all things creative and mooching around Winter huts filled with wonderful handmade gifts.
Winchester Christmas Market is a wonderful event - other than stalls filled with handcrafted festive gifts, they have a food square which serves delicious mulled wine and cider, roasted chestnuts, bratwurst, burgers and other delicious carby goodness! They also have an ice rink which is great fun - although I have to admit I'm always terrified of falling over with my hands and fingers spread out and someone gliding over them with their blades!! If I can get that image out of my head, I end up having a great time - anxious mind problems!

It was freezing when we visited the Christmas market - I'm so happy I wrapped up super warm with a big sweater, warm coat and a fluffy hat! Although my boots are typically warm, this time they gave in to the weather and my toes were freezing after about an hour of walking around Winchester.
The good thing is, even if you get cold outside Winchester has plenty of cafe's and pubs where you can stop off for a hot chocolate and warmth of a fireplace. I have spotted a few restaurants which I want to try out in the new year - food places in Winchester are actually really good!
Talking of food, I had to indulge in my favourite Christmas food classic - a bratwurst with sauerkraut, mustard and ketchup, with a glass of mulled wine. One of my main reasons for going anywhere is food - I'm like a labrador, motivated by anything yummy! After food we checked out the stalls which has yummy chocolates, delicious cheese (my favourite stall), smoked meats, hot chilli sauces and homemade pickles and relishes. I didn't pick anything up at the time because I was actually going out to eat the same evening and didn't want to carry around a bag of cheese, which means it's just an excuse for me to go back before the market is over to grab festive food essentials.
