Places To Visit: Studland, Dorset

Who knew that just down the road from us in Hampshire lie beautiful white sandy beaches, nature reserves, white cliffs, and blue waters  of Studland. On a mission to discover more beautiful places around the South of England, Heidi and I decided to take our butts over to the Studland Peninsula on a gorgeous sunny summer day.

Studland is located in Dorset, which is quickly becoming my third favourite county after my home county Hampshire, the best beach holiday destination in the UK Cornwall, and now Dorset which is a mix of beaches and forests. And home to the incredible Dorset Seafood Festival held in Weymouth every year!

I'm really glad we took the car on the ferry across to Studland because there is so much to do and to see! The ferry literally takes 5 minutes to cross, and then you're free to roam around. We decided to go for a little drive with no direction just to see what we stumble upon. And what we stumbled upon was a beautiful restaurant, some of you may be familiar with The Pig (On The Beach), and decided to stop off for a glass of prosecco as we were celebrating Heidi's birthday!

I've always had The Pig on my radar as a place to visit - there's something very charming about the mini franchise. And this surprise visit didn't disappoint - The Pig On The Beach is my favourite place when it comes to a couple of drinks in the sunshine. The only way I can describe it to you is you feel like you're in an American movie when a group of friends or family stay at a country club in the Hamptons. Seriously, the vibe is great.

Stunning sea and cliff views surround you as you sip your cold beverage of choice picked from an outdoor bar, relaxing on a sun lounger, enjoying a spacious garden. You can then get up and have a wonder around the allotment and greenhouse where some of the produce is grown. It's a beautiful and relaxing walk, and snoop at behind the scenes of The Pig!

The menu at The Pig sounded delicious, and although tempted, we had our mind set on what we wanted for lunch: freshly made fish and chips eaten on the beach. You just have to! When the weather is so nice, and you're starving, there's only one food that will fit the bill and that's fish and chips.

We drove to Swanage Pier and parked up to explore the town, and hunt down fish and chips. It's a cute town with boutique shops and plenty of cafes to grab a bite in. We found our much needed fish and chips and sat on the sandy beach to enjoy the meal. Just watch the seagulls don't steal too many chips!

After we fuelled up, we went for another drive to try and find Old Harry Rocks which is one of the places I want to tick off my list - so we just aimed to get as close to them as possible, ended up finding a car park and a walk to a small beach close to the Studland Nature Reserve. It was a pleasant walk down the hill, and a small sandy beach. I didn't realise that there is a small hike to get to the top of Old Harry Rocks and we kind of went the wrong direction for that... Plus we geared up for a day at the beach and flip flops and espadrilles aren't the best footwear for a hike. But I saw the cliffs and now I know where they are I'm coming back for a hike. Has to happen!

As we walked back up the hill, we stopped at a local pub for some refreshment - ice cold cider and a bottle of beer, enjoyed with a view of the sea, sky, and nature. We sat there for a while talking about life, plans, sharing funny stories and planning the rest of the afternoon on the sandy beach. If I wasn't driving that day, I could have easily spent hours in the pub with that incredible view talking about everything and nothing at all.

We finished our day relaxing on the Studland beach, watching the RNLI train on the water, and catching some sun rays. Please please please everyone wear sunscreen even on days when you think you're not going to get sunburnt because I was as red as a lobster by the end of the day! I wrote a post inspired by how badly I was burnt that day, so go check it out on how to avoid sunburn and also heal it. I'd like to come back to Studland beach for a whole day, and enjoy an evening BBQ on the beach, OR visit Shell Bay restaurant for an evening meal because the menu is on point and the views are stunning, especially at sunset.

So what do you think of Studland? Isn't it beautiful? I can't wait to go back and enjoy another day in this natural beauty spot!
