Paint Workshop with Eliza Rose, Wickham

I have been following the Eliza Rose shop (aka Simone) on Instagram for quite some time - she is the queen of up cycling and inspiring Nordic style home decor! Not only do I get home inspiration from Simone, but also my homeward wish list keeps growing every time I visit her page, or online shop.

A little while ago, Simone invited me to her first paint workshop in her new store in Wickham, an Instagrammable village in Hampshire. I have always wanted to go to a paint workshop - although I have painted some pieces in my house with chalk paint, it's always good to have a professional show you how to do things properly! During the workshop, we learnt how to paint, stencil, and finish items with a crackle effect.

All tools during the workshop were provided, including aprons which is brilliant because I always dress appropriately for occasion - this time I wore a white dress. Because that's a great idea for a clumsy girl who's about to paint! We chose our stencils, and I had to go for a cockerel as I love the rustic and homey feel of this stencil! Plus, I thought there is a nice space on my kitchen wall where I could home this quirky design.

It was really interesting to find out about different paint techniques, how to stencil properly without the stencil 'bleeding' (did you know the best way is to dab the paint on?), and how to create a vintage crackle effect with special glosses and waxes.

I really enjoyed the workshop, and loved creating a little decoration to take home with me. I'm really eager to try out more paints and finishes to see what I can make at home. A great idea is to pick up old furniture at places like the car boot sale, where they won't cost as much, and then play with them at home with paints and glosses! That way your home will look a million pounds on a budget!

There are many exciting workshops coming up at Eliza Rose - have a look at the schedule here! I'm really interested in the Floral Crown workshop - I'm not sure when I would ever have to make one, but it sure sounds like fun!

Have you ever taken a furniture painting workshop? Do you love a little bit of DIY? I'd love to hear about the pieces you have created for your home!
