Home Comforts - 5 Ways To Relax At Home

Is there anything better than home comforts? Even when I travel, there is something very special and relaxing about coming back home, crawling into your own bed, taking a deep breath in and exhaling out in peace. I can't wait until the day I own a home - at the moment I'm renting a house in Hampshire, but sincerely hoping and working very hard to be able to buy a home in the very near future.

Even though this house isn't my own, it's currently the place I call home - the place where I come to relax, rest, spend time with loved ones, entertain friends. Make happy memories. I also spend a lot of time working from home - I have a home office, or when I'm feeling a little more relaxed I like to work from the breakfast bar with the sun shining through.

Running a business is fun but hard work at the same time, so when I get home from a busy day out I like to rest and recover - here are some things I do to relax.

5 Ways To Relax At Home

1. Cook. I love cooking, especially when I have friends or family around. They sit at the breakfast bar and I use the kitchen as a personal stage to whip up an old favourite or experiment with new recipes. We enjoy a glass of wine and catch ups - our kitchen is the most sociable room! If I'm alone, cooking helps me relax. I put on a favourite TV show, and experiment with food.

2. Have a movie night with snacks. I think this is becoming an old favourite for so many people! There is something so cosy about putting on your favourite film (horror for me!), turning the light off and lighting some candles, and ordering some junk food. Pizza night anyone? Get cosy throws and blankets, and fluffy pillows to make your own den. I usually end up having a nap halfway through the film, or fall asleep as soon as the credits roll.

3. Read a book. The classic - it's a rainy day, I can't be dealing with looking at digital screens anymore, but I want to entertain myself. I pick up a book, and curl up on the sofa with the dog. My current favourite reads are: Bram Stokers Dracula; The Million Dollar Blog by Natasha Courtenay Smith; The Encyclopaedia Of Demons and Demonology; and Be Our Guest by The Disney Institute. There's a nice mix for you! What's your favourite book to curl up with?

4. Have a hot bath and get into comfy clothing. I love baths and probably have way too many in a week - mostly in the winter when it's cold though! It's a fast and relaxing way to warm up - plus I love using all the creams and oils after a bath to keep my skin soft. The second best thing is getting into comfy clothing - give me anything knitted and loose, and I'm in love. I love the outfit  in this post which I received from TOBI - a gorgeous knitted jumper which is actually a dress but it's a wee bit short for me to wear without anything underneath; and loose but stylish joggers. This isn't just a home outfit for me - I jazz it up with heels to go for lunch with friends, or wear sneakers when I'm out and about doing some chores!

5. Declutter. Ok for some this will not be relaxing - but for me, this is one of the biggest ways to de-stress. I hate clutter but unfortunately we have a tendency to hoard things in our house, so every so often I have a day when I just rummage through all cupboards and wardrobes and throw things away or give them to the charity shop. OR start piling up for a car boot sale in the summer - I love them! I always think if I have a clean and neat home, my mind is more focussed.

There are so many adventures waiting for us in the world, but we always come home. I love relaxing in the house, especially when the weather is miserable. We love getting cosy with the dog and the bunny, eating good food, watching interesting films and documentaries. One thing I wanted to take up is painting - that's on my hit list to try as a relaxing and fun hobby to do at home. And jewellery making! That is something I WILL get into this year - learn how to make dainty pretty jewellery with precious stones. The dream!

What do you like to do at home? How do you relax?

  1. Cooking and taking a pamper shower do magic tricks when I am home. As you said we always come home and home should be the place of cozyness and where you can be yourself, meaning eating pasta in your pajama...10/10 :D

    1. Oh yes - love a bowl of cheesy pasta! Some days when I'm really tired I get a McDonalds, get home and into pjs, and eat it whilst watching crap tv. It's the best! Haha xx
