Places To Visit: Stourhead, Wiltshire

Stourhead is a 1,072-hectare estate near Warminster, Wiltshire, England. The estate includes a Palladian mansion, the scenic village of Stourton, beautiful and big gardens, farmland, and woodland. And it's the perfect day out.
I love finding new places to explore - especially as we have so many beautiful spots around the South of England! Stourhead has been on my hitlist for quite some time - it's one of those locations which looks beautiful any time of the year, even when it's glum outside.

Stourhead has the perfect combination of outdoor and indoor activities - it's architecture is a breathtaking mix of Roman influence and English heritage. If you're an avid photographer, or just appreciate aesthetically pleasing scenery - this is definitely the place for you to check out! We actually took a few outfits to shoot here for a brand, it was just too good of an opportunity to miss.

We ventured into the manor house which is grand and welcoming - you can spend some time in a library with shelves from floor to ceiling, see notes and illustrations from 1720's, and keep warm by a roaring fire. There is also a piano which visitors are welcome to play - as we walked through the sitting room, one of the visitors decided to give it a go. Beautiful music filled the room and you can almost see it come alive with history.

We then ventured into the gardens of Stourhead - it's home to a small church, houses (beautiful cottages occupied by people living in one of the most stunning locations!) a lake with scenic surroundings - lots of hidden gems dotted around! There are Grecian statues waiting for you around corners - it's a nice surprise to stumble upon one as you walk around this National Trust property. You need a whole day to cover everything in Stourhead - because you don't want to miss out on a little secret hideaway by the lake or in the woodland!

As we got hungry from walking and shooting content, we found a welcoming cosy country style pub which served drinks and food. Enjoy a hearty soup, or gammon with eggs and chips (YUM!) as you relax and catch up on your adventures so far.
I really love country pubs. They are always so warm and cosy! And the food is great - you kind of just have to embrace the carbs and go with it. I like to try different meals on the menu, but if there is a burger on the go it's always my preferred choice. So much so that I even have a ranking system of the best burgers around Hampshire! Has to be done.

One of the most iconic sights at Stourhead National Trust is The Pantheon. Modelled on the Pantheon in Rome, it was originally called the "Temple of Hercules" as it was home to a statue of Hercules. It was renamed the Pantheon when statues including Diana, Flora, Isis and St Susanna were added in the 1760s - I was amazed at the beauty of these creations. You can see the pantheon from the lake as you come into the gardens of Stourhead - it was originally used to entertain guests, and asserted the high status of the family.

There is also the The Grotto, which was constructed in 1748. It's a big rocky chamber under a hill - and it holds some beautiful statues. In the summer, this Grotto is a place to cool down from the heat - or escape the rain for a little while! It's also the home of the 'Nymph' and 'River God' statues which are truly spectacular.

Stourhead was a breathtaking day out with so much to do and see - I would highly recommend this for days out whatever the season. I can't wait to go back in the summer and enjoy a picnic with lake views!

Have you been to Stourhead? What is your favourite place to visit? Now I officially have my National Trust card I'm excited to tick more places off the list!
