The Importance Of Self Love

“Learning to love yourself is like learning to walk—essential, life-changing, and the only way to stand tall.” – Vironika Tugaleva

I couldn't agree more with the above quote. Valentine's Day is upon us as a nation and all around I'm reading posts on gift guides, what to wear for dates, date night makeup, and the usual. But what I wanted to talk to you about is self love, and treating yourself not only on Valentine's Day, but also throughout the year.
We work hard. I don't know about you guys but juggling a business, a home, a blog, and a life can get tricky sometimes. I can definitely feel it these days! So I'm promising myself that I will start allocating some time for myself - because you really are the only person who can make you happy!

In this post I'm getting ready to go out for a meal with the girls, and I'll be trying out some new skincare products as well as turning to my all time favourites - just to let you know that some of the products featured in this post have been gifted by brands for review purposes.

My absolute favourite activity at home is to have a hot bubble or Lush bath whilst watching a film and scrolling through Instagram. I always have a selection of bath bombs or a bubble bath bottle at the ready - and keep stocking up so I don't get caught short when I'm in the mood for an indulgent bath! It's the same with candles - I stock up on candles all the time because I light them every day.

And the best thing to do after a bath is to indulge in some skincare TLC - I have been using this Gatineau Silk Toner* to prep my skin after cleansing. It's alcohol free and removes traces of cleanser and impurities whilst keeping the skin's pH and moisture levels. This cleanser is perfect for all skin types - even those who have sensitive skin, as it contains gentle ingredients like Silk Extracts which promote cell regeneration and improve elasticity; Cotton Extracts which leave the skin soft and comfortable; and Sweet Almond Oil which nourishes and softens the skin. It feels really gentle on the skin and smells divine! After you tone your face, use a tissue to blot your skin to prevent moisture loss.

I follow with a couple of drops of Antipodes Divine Face Oil mixed with Antipodes Manuka Honey Day Cream - since using this combination, my skin has been clear and radiant. I would highly recommend this mixture, it helps my skin stay soft and nourished the whole day.

Once my face is prepped and ready, it's time to move on to body care. I was super excited to try the Gatineau Defi Lift 3D oil* which hydrates problem areas of the skin whilst making them firmer, smoother and more supple. I use this oil on areas like my thighs, belly, hips, chest, and underarms. It has ingredients like Green Tea which protects skin from ageing and improves elasticity; Vitamin E which regenerates skin cells and improves the appearance of stretch marks and uneven skin texture; Ivy Extract which stimulates circulation and helps even out skin tone; Grapeseed Oil which deeply nourishes skin and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles; and Lotus Extract which makes the scent uplifting and comforting.

You need a little of this oil to last - after a shower or a bath, rub the oil on to areas of dry and dehydrated skin. The more you use this oil, the better skin will become on those areas, and once you're happy with the result you can use the oil more sparingly.

For super soft skin I love to use the Antipodes Joyful Hand and Body Cream* with hibiscus flower and berry notes. This cream is nutrient rich from avocado oil and helps to revive dry, tired, and stressed skin. It's the perfect daily moisturiser as it doesn't leave your hands greasy - but rather soft, nourished, and smelling gorgeous. It's also handy to carry around and ease the discomfort of dry hands, especially in cold weather.

It takes me ages to choose what to wear, not to mention when I can't find anything and then just give up halfway through, but the experience is made a little easier when I have a pink gin in hand! Although I am usually a wine drinker, occasionally I enjoy a gin - and I like trying gins with different flavours, like the time I discovered seaweed gin at a Winchester pub called The Black Boy which has a whole gin bar which has to be explored. I was offered to review The Lakes Distillery Damson Gin*, a gin which has notes of fresh cherries, ripe plums and juniper berries with hints of spice, yum! This pink gin is delicious with cold tonic and a hint of lime. Although I have to say it's pretty pricey at £15 for 20cl, if you're not a huge gin drinker and enjoy the occasional tipple it's worth the taste.

After I finally decide on what I'm going to wear, it's time to put the final touches to my look - lip colour. I love natural tones which emphasise the colour of my lips, plus a nice plumping gloss on top. I have wanted to try the Antipodes lipstick for ages because I heard so many great things about it, and finally got a chance to sample this healthy lipstick in Dusty Sound Pink*. The lipsticks are packed with natural and healthy ingredients like avocado oil which increases collagen production and keeps lips dewy and fresh; and calendula oil which has healing and anti-inflammatory properties. They are so natural, that it's actually safe to consume them - but I have to say it's not something I'll be trying! Although did you know that a woman ingests three kilograms of lipstick in her lifetime? So it's good to know Antipodes are bringing us gorgeous colour AND healthy ingredients in one lipstick.

I have made myself a promise that at least once a week I will have a proper pamper night, relaxing, doing things for myself - and also start treating myself to do things I love like getting my eyelashes done, having spa days, and massages. At the end of the day, if you work hard then you need to rest hard too! And when it comes to skincare, health, and beauty it really is an investment in yourself. So choosing the right products which will help keep your skin youthful, protected and nourished for longer. What is your pamper routine? How do you practice self love? Share your ideas with me!

  1. I usually don't have time to pamper myself and I feel like crap most of the time, this is why I've been lately trying to take some time for myself and do my nails, or braid my hair, use a fancy body lotion. Everytime I do this I feel so relaxed afterwards and so in order, I don't know how to explain :D
It was super interesting to check this post and to see how you usually do your pampering, I am still a newbie at it, so currently gathering some ideas! :D
    Hugs from Keit!

    1. Hey Keit, I'm exactly the same as you! Usually I don't have time to pamper myself but when I do I feel so great! So that's why I'm trying to take more time to myself to do these kinds of things - we can learn together! :) xx
