4 Summer Weekend Activities in Hampshire

Ever had one of those weekends when you know you want to get out of the house but have no idea what to do? It can be really frustrating frantically Googling 'Things To Do In Hampshire' and being hit with countless pages of past events or things which are not relevant to you.
But we are so lucky here in Hampshire to be able to enjoy a whole variety of things: from rivers to beaches; town local produce markets to a variety of food festivals; exploring busy cities and quaint villages; historical landmarks... the list really can go on!

I love getting out and about especially when the sun is out - get that National Trust card out and pick a location! On top of that I love local produce so markets and food festivals are always a favourite.

Here are my top 5 things to do in Hampshire in the summer:

1. Visit a National Trust location. It doesn't matter what your interests are, how old you are, or how many of you there are you can always count on a National Trust location to be a fun day out. There are so many beautiful National Trust locations in and around Hampshire like Mottisfont or Hinton Ampner with their beautiful blooms in the summer; New Forest Northern Commons for beautiful scenic walks and of course wild ponies; The Needles for stunning views and the famous Lighthouse. Visit the National Trust website and check out the Hampshire and surrounding areas locations for the perfect summer day out.

2. Visit a food festival. These are my absolute favourite days out because why would you not want to enjoy some local grub in the sunshine? There are many smaller food festivals around Hampshire - I usually find out about them last minute on Facebook (keep an eye on the local events in your Events Facebook tab); but there are some bigger Hampshire food festivals which I would love to tell you about. Ok so the first one is a little bit of a cheat because technically it's in Dorset BUT it's close enough to Hampshire and it's definitely worth the trip: The Dorset Seafood Festival. I go every year, and have been for the past 4 years - if you're a lover of seafood then this is the place to be. Click on the link above for the full review and lots of yummy pictures!
The other food festival which is great fun is the Lymington Seafood Festival and Lymington is a great day out anyway so worth a visit even if you miss the food fun - go crabbing at the marina or enjoy a stroll through the high street boutiques.
Graze Festival is hosted just outside of Winchester and is a great day out - grab your favourite bunch of people, enjoy great food, a couple of cheeky drinks, and music until late!

3. Spend a day exploring a new town or city. Sometimes you just need to have a look on Google maps, pick a town which sounds interesting and get in the car. Or just get in the car and drive - that's how  we discovered Houghton Lodge Gardens!
Some of my favourite places to mooch around in over the weekend are Stockbridge, Winchester, Lymington, Wickham, Boscombe (beach), Isle of Wight is a beautiful trip and so is Sandbanks.

4. Spend the day at the beach. Some of the above places I mentioned have the most stunning beaches for relaxing, surfing, a day out with the kids, or a nice picnic in the sunshine. I LOVE getting fish and chips on the beach, it's like a thing.
My top beach picks are:
- Sandbanks
- Boscombe
- Lepe Beach
- West Wittering
- Meon Shore
- Bournemouth
