The Grosvenor Hotel In Stockbridge - What Does The Future Hold?

I was recently invited to pop in to The Grosvenor Hotel in Stockbridge to meet the new team and find out all about their plans on revamping the hotel and restaurant. The Grosvenor Hotel is a Grade II listed Georgian building which has a 250 year old history. Stockbridge itself is a small town which has kept its heritage in the heart of Hampshire - it’s one of my favourites for a weekend stroll!

The Grosvenor Hotel in Stockbridge has always stood out on the high street - it looks grand and impressive from the outside! I believe it was owned by Greene King previously and was open for food and rooms, being especially popular with fishermen who enjoyed breaks in Stockbridge to catch the famous Test trout.

The restaurant was always known for being a ‘cost effective’ choice in Stockbridge and stocked pub grub with some specials, and had a welcoming bar. But over the years it felt like The Grosvenor lost the TLC that it needed - such a beautiful building can be so much more! Which is why it was so exciting to see there was something brewing with The Grosvenor.

A new team of talented individuals took over the building, making plans and unravelling strings of history behind painted walls - my favourite were the wooden etchings of Danebury racing horses and their jockeys dating back from 1839. These panels were discovered when refurbishing the Danebury dining room, and moved up to prime viewing spots of the room. The evening was sponsored by Danebury Wines which were served in the main dining room - the Danebury theme was brilliant and so connected!

During the evening we enjoyed a glass of Danebury sparkling wine, sampled the canap├ęs prepared by the chef (they were delicious!) and chatted to the team who are very excited to take on this project.

When talking on Instagram about The Grosvenor, I received this message from Camilla who visited the hotel to have a sneak peek at the beautiful wooden panels after I posted about them:

“I have grown up with The Grosvenor! In the 70s & 80s it was ‘the’ place that businesses would have their important do’s. It gradually deteriorated & I stopped ever going in there. You posted an Insta story talking about its renovation & the panels in the dining room. I told my friend you had done a post, so we went in. I told the man on the front desk that you had mentioned them on Instagram & asked if could have a look at the panels (it was off peak time so the dining room was empty). I really like what they have done. Perfect balance between the old & the new. At one point this hotel used to do fine cream teas in the garden out the back on the grass. My friend & I were going to have afternoon tea there. Unfortunately there were no tables! I look forward & hope that they will put tables in the garden & serve good quality tea in pots with a pot of boiling water ( pots warmed first!) with a good slaver of Devon or Cornish clotted cream!”

Well Camilla, I have brilliant news because the Grosvenor certainly do cream teas! I will be going there soon to sample the afternoon tea and enjoy the sunshine. The Grosvenor has grand plans with the way they have revamped their menu and source Hampshire produce, as local as possible, and have chefs and foodies coming in for special evening events. The cottage at the back of the building will be a bridal suite - making weddings at The Grosvenor even more special for those who choose to tie the knot in the heart of Hampshire. I got to see a sneak peek at interior plans for the hotel and suite and they look amazing!

The Grosvenor Hotel in Stockbridge is due to make a splash with its comeback - and about time! A building like this deserves to be as beautiful and special on the inside as it is on the outside. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for The Grosvenor, and I have a feeling it’s going to be bright.
